Most people know their sun sign, but Vedic astrology (Jyotish) leans on two other points. Your raasi is the sign the Moon occupied at your birth — Jyotish treats the Moon as the significator of the mind and emotions, so the moon sign carries more predictive weight than the sun sign does in Western astrology. Your lagnam (ascendant) is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your exact moment of birth; it anchors the twelve houses of your chart and shapes how every other placement is read. Because the ascendant changes roughly every two hours, an accurate lagnam is why we ask for your time and place of birth, not just the date.
